History repeats itself. At least it does with the Aston Martin-Zagato relationship. This year, Turin based Zagato have been commissioned to restyle the DB7 coupe.

The car was released at this year’s Pebble Beach Concours which featured many Zagato cars including two DB4s with Zagato bodies.

The new DB7 is highly reminiscent of the DB4 Zagato which started the Aston Martin-Zagato relationship back in 1961. The two coupes share much in similar despite a forty year gap. Like the DB4Z the new Zagato has a shortened wheelbase and only two seats. What sets the two cars apart are a race program.

Back in 1961 the Zagato-designed DB4 was purpose built to compete with cars such as the Ferrari 250. Unlike the DB4, the DB7 is not intended for the track. Instead the DB7 Zagato is offered as an exclusive grand tourer.

What the Zagato DB7 offers, beyond a new body, is improved performance. New brakes, revised suspension geometry and an updated interior ensure the DB7Z is exclusive in all areas. Zagato also shed 133lbs off the car, almost the same amount they took off the DB4 back in the sixties.

Production is set at 99 units which will be delivered in 2003.
