The Bentley Arnage (Red label) Long wheelbase is a Bentley Arnage Red label with a 25 cm (10 inch) extended wheelbase.
– The extra length is added to the car at its rear doors and its C-pillar (this style of saloon stretch is sometimes called “double-cut” in the United States). On the standard Arnage model, the rear wheel arches are welded against the rear door structures, but on the Arnage LWB they are placed a few inches further back. The overall effect is a larger rear area inside the car.
– Available only as a bespoke (“Mulliner”) model, each Arnage LWB is customised to the desires of the buyer. Even several armoured elements could be delivered.
– The Arnage LWB was launched in an effort by Volkswagen to provide a credible counterweight to the Rolls-Royce Phantom that BMW was about to unveil in January 2003.
– Although two cars were made in model year 2000, the model was launched in model year 2001.
– Initially, one Arnage Red label Long wheelbase was made by extending an Arnage Red label by 10 inches. This prototype was built by a Mulliner Park Ward “Special project team”. The VIN of the donor Red label SCBLC32E8YCX07505 was changed into SCBLD32E1YCX07505. This prototype has a different model designation in the VIN (SCBLD instead of SCBLE).
General characteristics
– The suspension was retuned for the added weight, allowing the larger car to still handle well.
– The engine was a better version of the 6750 cc V8 than the version that was used in the Arnage Red label. It featured Bosch Motronic ME7.1.1 engine management replacing the old Zytek system, and two small Garrett T3 turbochargers replacing the single large T4. This new engine developed 399 bhp and 835 Nm and was ready for meeting all future emissions requirements.
